My name is Tom Duggan. I’ve been a passionate and outspoken EV-angelist since I first drove an electric vehicle – Model S – in July 2013, and was immediately hooked.

A few months later, I began my nearly 6 years working with the Tesla team to “accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable transportation.” Back then, that corporate mission statement seemed, to most, like a pipe dream. The idea that electric vehicles would completely supplant internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles seemed wildly optimistic, at best.

That year, Tesla sold and delivered 22,477 Model S– Motor Trend’s Car of the Year– ten times more than in 2012. By 2018, with the ramp of Model 3, we had increased total deliveries another tenfold, to 245,000, and the prospects for our mission looked bright. That number should exceed 360,000 in 2019.

At this point, China, India and much of Europe have committed to the complete ban of ICE vehicle sales; by deadlines as early as 2025. I could not be more proud of Tesla’s having catalyzed this change, defying all odds through relentless effort and dedication. I am beyond excited about the transition to e-mobility and look forward to telling the story to my grandchildren !

I will soon be looking for my next opportunity to advance e-mobility and clean tech.
